Today, the 11th January 2015, saw over 3 million people march in cities across France in solidarity for those killed in recent terrorist attacks. More than 40 world leaders joined the start of la marche républicaine in Paris, linking arms in an act of solidarity. And hundreds of thousands carried placards reading “je suis Charlie“, the phrase that trended worldwide after the attack on offices of Charlie Hebdo. Before joining the march towards Nation myself, I recorded the following outside my flat on the Boulevard Voltaire as people marched by. A truly historic day!

Many walked in silence but every so often, spontaneous applause broke out, some sung the national anthem, some chanted “je suis Charlie”. It’s been a very emotional time in Paris and this was a fitting way to stand together and show true solidarity.
