“The World Sounds project was born from a passion. In 2008 I began recording and archiving soundscapes of places that I visit. I launched this website in 2014 as a means of archiving and sharing these natural and cultural audio soundscapes in the public domain. As the modern world develops at an ever faster pace the way the world sounds is constantly evolving. Soundscapes, the sonic environment of a place, can be lost forever. Natural environments are under threat, animal species can become extinct meaning we no longer hear their calls, natural disasters can alter how a place sounds and human-generated noise pollution is an ever more present worldwide problem. Through the World Sounds website I share soundscape recordings I have made around the world, as well as sharing some background on where the recording was made and what it means to me, the recordist.”
