In 2010 I spent a week in Israel, a fascinating country with an extraordinary history. Later in the World Sounds series I will post more of the recordings I made during my time there, but for now I want to present the awesome soundscape I experienced at a beach in Tel Aviv. At almost every beach I have ever been to I have witnessed people playing beach racket ball, but in Israel this seems to be the national sport! There were literally hundreds of people playing, each vying for enough space. The resulting soundscape was really interesting, with the combined timbre and rhythm of the numerous racquet hits creating an fascinating blend of sonic layers.
