For the next World Sounds recording, we head to Pai in the North of Thailand. Pai is a small town in northern Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Province, near the Myanmar border, about 80 km north of Chiang Mai. Once a quiet market village inhabited by Shan people, Pai now thrives on tourism and has become ever-increasingly popular with back-packers due to its relaxed atmosphere. During the evening, the centre of the village hosts a popular street market where, during my stay, delicious local delicacies were consumed in large quantities! Pai is also very well known for it’s music scene, with many bars and cafes featuring live performances and many street performances in and around the night market.
The following recording is of one such performance that I captured whilst walking through the streets.
